Fulfilment and Client Response Software Solutions, Designed by ‘Geeks’ For Real-World Business Growth
Mosaic is a tech-driven, highly innovative fulfilment solutions company founded in 2009 by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs who are looking to grow their e-commerce business. Mosaic also delivers client response solutions to help charitable and non-charitable organisations thrive and increase their impact.
Roll on twelve years and Mosaic has grown. We now have over 100 clients in our portfolio and many of these are household names whose online businesses have also grown exponentially. Mosaic’s success is your success!
As entrepreneurs, Mosaic’s founders have the experience and expertise to understand your pain points perfectly and they know how important it is for you to get ahead and stay ahead of the e-commerce pack. Mosaic looks to smooth your spikes and to boost your growth exponentially through its superior technology and proactive, motivated staff who are experts in the field.
At Mosaic we invest heavily in our technology: we have the latest warehouse management systems in place in our 150,000 sq ft distribution centre; we have developed our own IT Ecosystem and Online Portal called MiWorld™, and our bespoke and off-the-shelf SaaS products are written and managed in house by our team of 16 software developers based at York University Science Park.
Mosaic’s CEO Duncan Marrison said:
"My brief to our IT developers is quite simple. It is to deliver the best client solutions in the fulfilment and client response sectors. We do not just fix our clients’ current issues, we also anticipate trends and solve future issues which clients may not even have considered yet. We help our clients scale painlessly, insulating them from issues which we know would otherwise affect their growth and profitability."

Chief Executive Officer
But don’t just take our word for it. We visited the IT Developer team recently on York University’s campus to see what they had to say about their work. Interestingly, we spoke to each of them separately without revealing the questions beforehand. The uniformity of their responses was fascinating, revealing a team whose values, purpose, vision and drive were totally aligned.
Did they speak in ‘geek’? No. Did they think outside the box? Most definitely. Were they real-world human beings and not IT machines? Absolutely. In this blog, which is one of a series, we chat to one of our Senior Developers, Ian. Read on to discover more.
Ian’s Role at Mosaic:
Currently I am working on billing integrations to support our warehouse management system. I also support clients on a ‘business as usual’ basis, resolving day to day issues they are experiencing with their tech platforms. I find this rewarding because I get to witness daily how we are helping our clients scale up.
I am also involved in identifying Software as a Service (SaaS) products which are most beneficial for our clients.

Ian
Senior Developer
Ian’s Career History – From Mars to Secret Bunkers:
I have a postgraduate degree in Software for Commerce and Industry. I started my career building radio equipment for the RNLI, Special Boat Service (SBS) and Special Armed Service (SAS) in my first job as an electronic technician in 1995, signing the Official Secrets Act in the process.
I also built Keanu Reeves’ throat-microphone when he starred in the film ‘Speed’.
Working for Spectratech (then Daniel Europe) I built flow and gas meters; and at Pace Microtechnology, I was part of a team which built the first set top box – which was cutting edge technology at the time.
Things got ‘interesting’ at Monitor Computer Systems, when I was called upon to visit a Portakabin which concealed the entrance to an ex-nuclear bunker, to work on security systems and alarm receiving centres. Upon entering the Portakabin, I was transported down into the bunker via a concealed lift.
At Teledyne Defence & Space, I worked on the only component part of the US Air Force’s Stealth™ bomber which was manufactured outside the US. That part was made in Yorkshire and the company was US-owned so that the Americans could say it was totally US made.
Staying with the space theme, my work at One Web contributed towards bringing the internet to the world via satellite. This entailed trips to Rutherford Appleton’s Space Laboratories in Oxfordshire to verify the various components in a vacuum chamber setting. The said components are now part of the Perseverance Rover on Mars.
This brings me to my current role at Mosaic. You will see from the above that I have worked on major breakthrough projects during my career, which have changed the world and gone to infinity (well, Mars) and beyond. I can say with certaintly however that Mosaic is ‘it’ opportunity-wise.
Mosaic is the single most fulfilling place I have ever worked at. My reasons are several:
- Mosaic is progressive. It’s a company which you can just sense is going places and the team is particularly dedicated, passionate and hardworking
- Mosaic’s Directors have the right strategies in place
- Mosaic’s Chief Executive Duncan Marrison has the right vision
I am pleased to be a part of a fantastic company which is going places, fast!
Quirky facts about Ian:
I am a freeman of York and have the freedom of the city. I was born in York and can trace my roots there back to the Normans. This means that I can drive sheep to market over the Ouse Bridge in York without paying a toll and can keep cattle on The Stray common!
As a freeman of the city, I can also go round proclaiming ‘I am Yorkshire’ around York on Yorkshire Day. I haven’t tried any of these freedoms - yet.
I have also played a leading role in several horror and comedy films over the years, including ‘My Neighbour Stanley’ and ‘Star Now.’ As a bit of an actor, it’s no surprise that one of my favourite board games is Munchkin, which is a satirical card game based on the clichés and oddities of Dungeons & Dragons and similar role-playing games.
